[UPDATED] Facebook Has Apparently Blocked Users From Posting 'Everyone will know'

with

Facebook has apparently blocked all users from posting or commenting 'Everyone will know'. If you do that, you will get an 'Action Blocked' notification(see picture above) that will prevent you from posting the status or comment that says it's spam.

It is not a user-exclusive problem, everyone is experiencing it and it is unknown whether it is intended or a bug, as it is nearly impossible to know if 'everyone will know' can discriminate someone.

An example of a comment being blocked by Facebook that says 'Everyone will know'.

The word is spreading rapidly and more and more users are eventually finding out, so it is only a matter of time someone approaches someone from the staff of Facebook to comment on it. Stay tuned for updates on the topic, if more on the story is learned, the post will be updated.

UPDATE:

Facebook has fixed the issue by now and everyone can post 'Everyone will know' in both posts and comments now.

Facebook Apologises To Media After Rejecting A Sick Baby's Ad By Calling It 'Gore' Content

with

Hudson Azera Bond is a two-month old baby from North Carolina, who needs a new heart. His family cannot afford the heart transplant all by themselves, so they have been asking for donations so they can save the life of their son. Hudson is in Duke Children's Hospital where a device has been fitted in his heart, which assists him to keep him alive until he can get the heart transplant.

As a part of spreading the word, Hudson's father, Kevin Bond, has a Facebook page made for the baby, where he posts progress and asks for donations. Occasionally, he pays for sponsorship of the page so more people can find it and help with the transplant. Recently, Kevin paid for a 20$ Facebook ad for the page, and apparently, Facebook rejected the ad(see picture above) by calling it 'gory', comparing it with "accidents, car crashes, dead and dismembered bodies, ghosts, zombies, ghouls, and vampires".

Kevin Bond then posted about how Facebook called a picture of his son gory and stated that:
What is offensive about this picture of my Son? In Classic Facebook fashion the link they provided to appeal this decision doesn't work, and all efforts to contact them have failed. Facebook you should be ashamed of yourself. Of all the garbage you endlessly pedal over the Internet, a picture of my Son is where you draw the line? Disgusting.

This incident sparked a lot of controversy towards Facebook, and eventually Facebook apologised for the ad rejection to the media. They have stated that "This was a mistake on our part. The ad has been re-approved. We apologise for any nuisance this has caused to the family". It is said that Facebook has offered the family $10,000 in advertisement credit, for sponsoring Hudson's page in ads.

Kevin Bond has acknowledged that he has read the apology and shows dismay with their apology, and the fact they did not contact him directly, and he wouldn't even had known of it had he not seen their "half hearted" apology on the media, stating that:
I read Facebook's response on media outlets last night. They apologized for the inconvenience this caused my family. Inconvenience was never an issue. Having my beautiful Son compared to dismembered bodies, vampires, zombies, etcetera hurt me, and my family. The ad in question was time sensitive. Reversing their decision days later fixes nothing. Further, the company still hasn't contacted me directly. Had I not read their half hearted apology on the media I'd have no idea it existed.

Kevin Bond has also asked Facebook to give $5,000 of advertisement credit to another ill-child, who suffers from the Sanfilppo Syndrome, called Eliza O'Neill, who also needs donations for her treatment. Kevin has stated that:

I met Eliza O'Neill before Hudson was born. She's a remarkable four-year-old girl racing the clock against Sanfilppo Syndrome. A clinical trial that may very well save her life is nearly funded. We've asked Facebook to give $5,000.00 of those ad dollars to her.

You can donate for Hudson Bond by going over to his official site here →   http://www.hudsonsheart.com

The Deadly Ebola Virus Outbreaks in Africa

The deadly Ebola virus has spread out in Guinea, Africa, causing 62 reported deaths.

Bats are believed to be the hosts of this virus, and it has spread out due to eating their meat. World Health Organization has banned the sale and consumption of bats in attempt to prevent the spreading of the Ebola virus. Bats are a local delicacy in the area and have appeared to be "main agents" for the outbreak in the south. From the 62 reported deaths caused by the outbreak, some of the cases have been reported in the neighbouring Liberia and Sierra Leone as well.

According to the World Health Organization, the virus is spread by close contact and has no known cure or vaccine. It kills between 25% and 90% of the victims, which depends on the strain of the virus. The symptoms of infection include internal and external bleeding, diarrhoea and vomiting.

The charity organization has set-up two quarantine sites in the southern Guinea to try to contain the outbreak. Health authorities are receiving help from the World Health Organization(WHO) and messages are being broadcast on the national television to help the people.

Google, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn Launch The WebScaleSQL

The engineering teams at Facebook, Google, LinkedIn and Twitter are working together and have launched the WebScaleSQL. WebScaleSQL has been described as "a collaboration among engineers from several companies that face several challenges in running MySQL at scale and seek greater performance from a database technology tailored for their needs", according to the official WebScaleSQL website.

The goal in launching the WebScaleSQL is to "enable scale-oriented members of the MySQL community" to work "more closely together" for prioritizing the aspects that are "most important" to them.

The aim is to create a more integrated system of knowledge-sharing to help companies "leverage the great features already found in MySQL 5.6" while the engineering teams will contribute and keep building/adding more features that are specific to deployments in large scale environments. The engineers from all the four companies have contributed code and provided feedback to the engineers working on WebScaleSQL in order to develop a "new, more unified, and more collaborative" version of MySQL.

WebScaleSQL has been kept open source, so more contributors can who "have the scale and resources to customize MySQL" to join the development and they have stated that they will "welcome input from anyone who wants to contribute, regardless of what they are currently working on".

Facebook Is Buying Oculus VR for 2 Billion Dollars

Facebook has revealed that they are buying Oculus VR, which is the maker of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. Oculus VR is being purchased for $2 Billion dollars, which is $400 Million dollars in cash and 23.1 million shares of the Facebook stock. Facebook's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg has revealed the purpose of purchasing Oculus VR in a blog post, stating:
Oculus' mission is to enable you to experience the impossible. Their technology opens up the possibility of completely new kinds of experiences. Immersive gaming will be the first, and Oculus already has big plans here that won't be changing and we hope to accelerate.

The deal has caused great outrage from the supporters of the project. Oculus Rift was previously being funded as a Kickstarter project, and the supporters are unhappy with the move. Not only the Kickstarter supporters, but gamers and fans alike have shown disapproval over the deal, fearing that Facebook will ruin the Oculus Rift now. However, both Facebook and Oculus VR have stated that the project will not be affected, but will only become better with Facebook's support.

Oculus' inventor, Palmer Luckey has stated in a Reddit post that:
In the end I kept coming back to a question we always ask ourselves every day at Oculus: what's best for the future of virtual reality? Partnering with Mark and the vision, allows us to execute on some of our most creative ideas and take risks that were otherwise impossible. Most importantly, it means a better Oculus Rift with fewer compromises even faster than we anticipated.

John Carmack, who left Id Software and joined Oculus VR as it's CTO, stated that:
For the record, I am coding right now, just like I was last week. I expect the FB deal will avoid several embarrassing scaling crisis for VR.

On a negative note, the founder of the Mojang studio and the creator of the ground-breaking hit Minecraft, Markus Persson, who had received the development kit, has cancelled his plans for making a version of Minecraft for the Oculus Rift, after the Facebook deal, stating that Facebook creeps him out. He tweeted shortly afterwards the news of the deal broke out that:
We were in talks about maybe bringing a version of Minecraft to Oculus. I just cancelled that deal. Facebook creeps me out.

The Oculus Rift virtual reality headset is expected to launch to the public either around late 2014 or early 2015, with Sony's Project Morpheus being seen as possible competition.

The First Gay Man To Sue The Government

A Chinese gay rights activist from the Hunan Province, the 19 year old Xiang Xiaohan, has sued the Chinese government for not registering his gay rights organization. His campaign is to challenge the decision made by the civil affairs department of the Hunan government has marked a rare open protest by China's gay and lesbian community and he instantly came into the media's spotlight.

Xiang Xiaohan filed the lawsuit in the provincial capital Changsha after the Hunan government turned down his application to register his organization, sending him a reply which stated that "homosexuality has no place in traditional Chinese culture".

Xiang Xiaohan has said, in an interview with BBC News that:
I believe what the government said [in the reply] defames the reputation of the gay and lesbian community in China, and I want them to issue a written apology. The apology is not only for me, but for hundreds of thousands of gay men and women in China.
He also wants his group to be registered as an NGO, which would enable it to legally receive donations and enjoy tax exemptions. If successful, this would be the first NGO-registered organization of it's kind in China.

The lawsuit was filed on 19th, February. Xiang Xiaohan received a written reply from the court on 14th, March and the case was thrown out by the court because it did not believe that the government defamed homosexuals, and that the court believed the government only offered what it called "administrative guidance on the issue of homosexuality". Xiang Xiaohan will appeal against the ruling.

Xiang Xiaohan stated that:
If we can't force the civil affairs department of the Hunan government to withdraw what it said on homosexuality, then other government bodies would likely follow its example, and this would cause irreparable psychological damage to gay and lesbian people. If gay and lesbian people have no place in China's traditional culture, how can you encourage them to pursue the China Dream(referred to President Xi Jinping's publicly stated vision for the country's future).

He also stated that:
This is a fight for the long term. We will continue to try to encourage the government to safeguard gay and lesbian rights through laws and agree to register our organisation. I'm confident that gays and lesbians will be fully accepted in China even though it may take 20, 30 or even 50 years for it to happen."

Homosexuality was illegal until 1997 and was labelled as a mental disorder until 2001 in China. Although Xiang Xiaohan has received support, he has also been criticized and bashed by some.

FDA Approves The Cefaly, A Battery Powered Head-Band That Prevents Migraine

The FDA(Food and Drug Administration) has recently approved the Cefaly for prescription in the United States. The Cefaly is a head-band which uses a low dose of nerve-stimulating electricity that prevents migraine.

The Cefaly is to be worn for 20 or less minutes per day. It sends a low electrical current which stimulates the 'cranial nerves' which are associated with migraine pain. The users who have tested this device have stated that they feel a "tingling or messaging sensation".

The Cefaly is only available for patients of age 18 and above, and is only available per prescription. It is also available in Europe, Canada and Australia.

According to a study, 53% of the participants were satisfied and planned to purchase the product for future use, while the others complained that they do not like the feeling while wearing it, experienced headache after using it or felt sleepy. However, no serious effects have been reported.

Bill Gates Says He Wouldn't Characterize Edward Snowden As a Hero

In an interview with The Rolling Stone, Bill Gates was asked if he considers Edward Snowden as a hero or a traitor. Bill Gates replied:

I think he broke the law, so I certainly wouldn't characterize him as a hero. If he wanted to raise the issues and stay in the country and engage in civil disobedience or something of that kind, or if he had been careful in terms of what he had released, then it would fit more of the model of "OK, I'm really trying to improve things." You won't find much admiration from me.

He was then asked if he thinks "it's better now that we know what we know about government surveillance", to which Bill Gates replied:
The government has such ability to do these things. There has to be a debate. But the specific techniques they use become unavailable if they're discussed in detail. So the debate needs to be about the general notion of under what circumstances should they be allowed to do things.

This clears up that Bill Gates definitely does not like what Edward Snowden did, and considers him a law breaker. But personally, I see Edward Snowden as a hero.

Ubuntu Smartphones Estimated Price Revealed

Canonical's Chief Executive Mark Shuttleworth has revealed at the CeBIT that the smartphones running on the Ubuntu operating system will be costing between $200 and $400 Dollars. Mark Shuttleworth has stated:
Ours will come out in the mid-higher edge, so $200 to $400. We’re going with the higher end because we want people who are looking for a very sharp, beautiful experience and because our ambition is to be selling the future PC, the future personal computing engine.

Canonical aims to create hardware that would work as a smartphone and also work as a PC when plugged into a monitor. They have teamed up with phone makers Meizu and BQ earlier this year to produce the devices but their attempts to raise $32 Million Dollars to create the 'Ubuntu Edge' smartphone were unsuccessful. However, while calling it a "spectacular failure", Mark Shuttleworth also called it a "spectacular success" because of the attention it received.

The Ubuntu smartphones will be launched sometime this year, while more will follow in 2015.

The Archival Disc is expected to be launched in 2015, starting from 300GB of storage and expanding to 1TB.

The spokesperson also added that:
The development is specifically for professional archiving. We are not currently considering optical discs for household consumer use.

Houston Father Fatally Shoots Daughter's Boyfriend After Finding Him In Her Bedroom

A 55 year old father in Houston, fatally shot his 16 year old daughter's boyfriend after finding him in her bedroom.

According to Fox News, the father was awaken by one of his other children and was told that there was someone in his daughter's bedroom at about 2:20AM. He took his gun and confronted the 17 year old teen in his daughter's bedroom. The daughter declined that she knew the teen and the father told the boyfriend not to move. The teen reached for something and the father then fatally shot the teen, killing him. The teen did not have a gun.

Later, the daughter confessed that she knew the teen, who was her boyfriend, and she snuck him in her bedroom herself.

There is an on-going investigation on the incident and the father will be unlikely to get any charges because he reacted to what he knew at the time, what he knew after was not what his state of mind was at the time of the shooting, he was only trying to protect his daughter. A grand jury will decide whether the father should be charged with anything or not.

Mark Zuckerberg Says The US Government Is A Threat To The Internet And Called President Obama To Express His Frustration

The founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg has stated that the US government is a threat to the internet. He says he called the United States' President Obama to "express my frustration over the damage the government is creating for all of our future".

Mark Zuckerberg added that when "our engineers work tirelessly to improve security, we imagine we're protecting you against criminals, not our government". "The US government should be the champion for the internet, not a threat.", Mark Zuckerberg continued.

He then, ended his statement saying that it's up to "all of us" to build the internet "we want" and that we can "count on Facebook" to do their part.

This is the original statement posted by Mark Zuckerberg on his Facebook profile:
As the world becomes more complex and governments everywhere struggle, trust in the internet is more important today than ever.
The internet is our shared space. It helps us connect. It spreads opportunity. It enables us to learn. It gives us a voice. It makes us stronger and safer together.
To keep the internet strong, we need to keep it secure. That's why at Facebook we spend a lot of our energy making our services and the whole internet safer and more secure. We encrypt communications, we use secure protocols for traffic, we encourage people to use multiple factors for authentication and we go out of our way to help fix issues we find in other people's services.
The internet works because most people and companies do the same. We work together to create this secure environment and make our shared space even better for the world.
This is why I've been so confused and frustrated by the repeated reports of the behavior of the US government. When our engineers work tirelessly to improve security, we imagine we're protecting you against criminals, not our own government.
The US government should be the champion for the internet, not a threat. They need to be much more transparent about what they're doing, or otherwise people will believe the worst.
I've called President Obama to express my frustration over the damage the government is creating for all of our future. Unfortunately, it seems like it will take a very long time for true full reform.
So it's up to us -- all of us -- to build the internet we want. Together, we can build a space that is greater and a more important part of the world than anything we have today, but is also safe and secure. I'm committed to seeing this happen, and you can count on Facebook to do our part.

Kashmiri Students in India Face Sedition Charges For Cheering on Pakistan's Victory Against India In The Asia Cup Match

A group of Kashmiri students in India is facing charges of sedition for cheering for Pakistan in a cricket match between Pakistan and India in a cricket match.

The students were studying in a university in the Uttar Pradesh state were suspended from the college after cheering for Pakistan in the Asia Cup match where India was defeated by Pakistan.

The incident happened on the Swami Vivekanand Subharti University in the Meerut City on Sunday when the group of Kashmiri students celebrated Pakistan's victory, which lead to arguments with the other students and the university's administration ordered an inquiry and suspended the students. Some of the Kashmiri students deny any wrong-doing in their statements when talking to the media.

The sedition charges carry a three-year prison term. Jammu Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has stated that the charges against the students are "unacceptably harsh" and he believes that "what the students did was wrong and misguided but they certainly didn't deserve to have charges of sedition slapped against them". He also added that the punishment would "ruin their futures and will further alienate them".

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has stated that he would talk to the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and "intervene on behalf of the misguided students".

Pakistan is India's arch-rival and the matches between India and Pakistan are dramatic and intense, followed with a craze by both Pakistan and India. Kashmir has been an unsolved issue for over 60 years, with both Pakistan and India claiming it as their own, while many of the Kashmiri individuals want to be a part of Pakistan, while the rest want to be a part of neither and want to be a country of it's own.

Facebook has just announced that the News Feed will be getting a new update, with a comparison picture between the current News Feed and the updated one(picture above).

Facebook has stated that:
You may recall that last year we experimented with a complete redesign of News Feed for desktop and mobile. People who tested it told us that they liked the bigger photos and images, but found it more difficult to navigate Facebook overall. The updated design has the best of both worlds: it keeps the layout and navigation people liked, but offers bigger images and photos, as well as a new font. The current design on mobile remains the same.

They've also stated that the changes are simply visual and wont affect stories and the interface except for the stories and ads being the same, and larger than now in size.

The updated News Feed will be available in the "coming weeks".

Facebook Is Buying The WhatsApp Messenger

with

Facebook is purchasing the popular messaging mobile app WhatsApp for $16 billion dollars, which includes an extra $3 billion for the owners of WhatsApp in restricted stock for the next four years.

WhatsApp messenger has over 450 million users and the number increases in thousands everyday. It competes with Snapchat, however, Whatsapp is much more established. WhatsApp is mainly used by people who love texting but choose not to use the regular texting methods because of the charges, and sending messages through the internet has always been cheaper.

Facebook also tried to purchase Snapchat last year with a $3 billion offer, however, Snapchat owners refused. So Facebook went for the better choice.

Microsoft has sent emails to users which tells you to "ditch your PS3" and save 100$ for buying an Xbox One. Although the offer sounds to be an anti-Sony move, it's not exactly just that. The Microsoft Store is giving you a 100$ discount on the Xbox One if you trade in your PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 S or Xbox 360 E for it. The offer is valid only until March 2, 2014.

Ironically, the price difference between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One also happens to be only 100$, which fans already spoofed by saying "Keep your PS3 and save 100$, buy a PS4". What Microsoft will do with the PS3 consoles is unknown, either they'd put them in a garage or sell them on eBay. However, according to GamingBlend, a spokesperson for Microsoft has stated that the consoles will be recycled.

For trade, the consoles have to be properly functioning and must have original accessories.

UK Scientists Develop The Purple Tomato

"Indigo Rose" is the name of a newly developed "purple tomato". UK scientists have genetically modified tomatoes and have developed the new purple tomatoes with a high level of antioxidants, which they call the "Indigo Rose".

A professor in the OSU horticulture department has stated that:
The purple tomatoes are intended for home gardens and fresh markets and is available in seeds. It is the first improved tomato variety in the world that has anthocyanins in its fruit.
According to BBC News, a large-scale production is now under way in Canada with the "first 1,200 litres of purple tomato juice ready for shipping". The purple tomato is intended to give the consumers the nutritions of fruits such as blueberries, in tomatoes, which will increase the nutritional value of everything tomatoes are used in, such as ketchup. The purple pigment is caused as a result of the transfer of a gene from a 'snapdragon plant' which allows the anthocynin within the tomato plant.

The purple pigment is the result of the transfer of a gene from a snapdragon plant - the modification triggers a process within the tomato plant allowing the anthocyanin to develop.
