Microsoft Changes SkyDrive To OneDrive, Introducing New Features

Microsoft has changed the name of the SkyDrive to 'OneDrive' and the first 100,000 who newly join the OneDrive with a new Microsoft mail account, will get 100GB of space for their drive! You can sign up for OneDrive right now.

However, although OneDrive is basically SkyDrive, there are more changes than just the name.

The most notable new features are:

  • Automatic Camera Uploads For Android: Although this feature existed on the iOS and Windows Phone versions of SkyDrive for a while, the Android version did not have it. However, with the OneDrive upgrade, it is now available to Android as well. There will also be an extra 3GB for anyone who turns on the feature, and those who already use it will get the bonus as well.
  • Inviting Users For Extra Space: If you invite people to join OneDrive and they accept the invitation, you will be rewarded an extra 500MB space for your Drive, per each redeem, going to a maximum of 5GB or extra space through this method.
  • Better Video Handling: OneDrive will add the MPEG-DASH which adapts to your bandwidth conditions, allowing better streaming for the videos.
  • Collaborating on the Office 365 documents will be much better than before, featuring character-by-character editing, with characters appearing to other users just as you type.
  • Monthly Payment Options are now available.

There will be, of course, some other minor changes but these are the major ones.
