NSA Agents Are Spying on World of Warcraft, Second Life And Xbox Live

According to documents leaked by former N.S.A(National Security Agency) contractor Edward J. Snowden, and published by The New York Times, it has been revealed that agencies of United Kingdom and United States of America have been spying on popular online virtual worlds, such as the World of Warcraft, Second Life, and Xbox Live games. In Second Life, there were so many F.B.I., Pentagon and CIA spies roaming around, according to the document a 'deconfliction' group was created so that the spies do not cross against each other. According to the documents, there have been no success in catching a threat so far.

Although Microsoft and Linden Labs have declined to comment so far, Blizzard Entertainment has stated that they are "unaware of any surveillance taking place. If it was, it would have been done without our knowledge or permission".

A Government spokesman has declined to confirm or denied this, but has stated that their work is conducted under "a strict legal and policy framework". There have been no word from the N.S.A on this topic.

The reason behind the operation have been said that spy agencies are worried that the terrorists and other threats could use video games as a good cover for exchanging information through private messages without getting caught, disguised as players. In one of the top-secret documents from 2008, NSA has warned that virtual worlds have the potential to be a “target-rich communication network” allowing intelligence suspects “a way to hide in plain sight.”

Will you still see the virtual worlds and other online games the same way, or will the experience never be the same again? Share your thoughts and views with us!
